A perfectly timed $10 fitness pass turns my quiet post‑bootcamp recovery into a 10‑day mini‑bootcamp of dance, aqua, RPM, and functional circuits — and reminds me why a bright, welcoming exercise environment can feel like a second home, even when it’s outside the budget.
The $10 Unlimited‑Access Jam
Just as I was settling down after an unexpected round of Strong bootcamp and easing myself back toward jogging, the universe presented a limited‑time offer I couldn’t ignore: a 10‑day fitness pass for $10, with proceeds going to the local surf clubs. It was my favourite kind of temptation — affordable, time‑bound, and attached to a place I’ve always felt good in, even if it’s not currently in the budget.
Carefully timed to get the maximum benefit, this budget friendly “little treat” quickly transformed into a familiar kind of mini‑bootcamp. The difference this time was that I actually knew the formats, the instructors, and the rhythm of the place — which made the next ten days both manageable and unexpectedly energising.
Day‑by‑Day Breakdown
Day 1 — Easing In (Elliptical + Light Cycle + Machines)
Nothing strenuous.Just a gentle re‑entry: elliptical, a light cycle, a few machines.
The kind of session where your watch would be proud — except I forgot to wear it.
Still, a calm start, because I knew what was coming.
Day 2 — Les Mills Dance
One of my favourites for the uncoordinated. Two left feet, zero shame, maximum fun.
I got through it with dignity intact and only minor internal commentary from the pipis.
Day 3 — Rest
A strategic pause.Bootcamp wisdom: never sprint into day four.
Day 4 — Aqua Fitness
A classic. Perfect for someone who doesn’t enjoy sweating and prefers resistance that feels like a hug. No forgotten undergarments this round, which is ideal because exiting the gym half‑assembled is how scandals begin.
Kept it easy because Day 5 was looming.
Day 5 — Functional Circuit (aka: Strong’s Cousin)
Somewhat resembles Strong. The pipis were already nervous.
Round one nearly took me out. I even muttered, “I’m about to exit stage right,” which must have triggered the instructor’s mercy protocol. She took pity on me, told me the next round was shorter, and said I could leave the weights out if needed.
A blessing.
A kindness.
A survival strategy.
Thirty minutes later, it was over. The pipis filed a formal complaint.
Day 6 — Aqua Fitness (Again)
A recovery day for the pipis. This instructor, however, expected counting.
Mid‑track.
While moving.
This was not part of the deal.
Thankfully it was only three exercises per track, so “close enough” became the official counting method.
Day 7 — Rest (ANZAC Day Duties Call)
Gentle walking. No gym.
A respectful pause in the chaos.
Day 8 — Virtual RPM (The Cave)
Not the same as having an instructor, but still a nice change of scenery. The bikes are packed so tightly you have to sideways‑shuffle to reach yours, but once you’re clipped in, it’s fine.
And yes — always the instructor doing the counting.
As it should be.
Day 9 — Back to the Pool
Aqua again. Reliable. Kind.
Pipi‑approved.
And of course, a double‑check to make sure no spare attire was left behind — because exiting aqua without certain garments is the kind of accidental public scandal no one needs.
Day 10 — Sprint (Les Mills RPM, Instructor‑Led)
The big finish. Sprint is always tough, but the instructor recognised me — and a couple of class members did too.
It’s amazing how much easier it feels when someone’s guiding you through the suffering.
A strong, sweaty, satisfying end to the 10‑day pass.
Final Tally
8 workouts in 10 days. For me, that’s excellent.
For the pipis, it’s a heroic deployment. And through it all, this establishment remains gloriously, defiantly, a no‑code‑brown zone.
The pass expired, the mission was complete, and I walked away feeling genuinely good — reminded of how much I enjoy this environment, even if it’s not something I can commit to financially right now.
The pass expired, the pipis survived, and I’m back to my usual routine… at least until the next piece of low‑cost temptation appears. For now, it’s back to Pilates and online RPM. But when the budget shifts, I know exactly where I’d like to return.
