Elephant Run Week 8

The Mental Game Jungle

· Nannys Corner

This week, the jungle garden wasn’t just outside—it was in my head. Family dramas, heatwaves, and a parade of excuses tried to derail the mission, but I laced up anyway. Because Negative Nelly can take a running jump—I’m one determined lady.

🎭 Negative Nelly’s Excuse Parade

Headline: Negative Nelly can take a running jump—cos I’m one determined lady.

Excuse #1: “My phone battery might die.”

→ Reality: The only thing dying is Nelly’s credibility.

Excuse #2: “It’s too hot.”

→ Reality: Warm weather = free sauna session.

Excuse #3: “Smoothie vs gummy bears.”

→ Reality: Smoothie fuels the run, gummy bears fuel the comedy.

Excuse #4: “The hill is impossible.”

→ Reality: Hills are just nature’s way of saying, “Prove it.”

Excuse #5: “The parade crowd slowed me down.”

→ Reality: Toddlers with pushchairs are honorary training partners.

🌱 Run One – Plank Time Logic

Duration: 28 minutes (just 3 minutes longer than last week, but plank logic applies—time stretches).

Fuel: Gummy bears and coffee. Regret level: high.

Recovery: Couch flop mandatory after the walk home and that final hill.

Lesson: Smoothie > sugar chaos.

🍓 Run Two – Smoothie Redemption

Fuel: Smoothie returns, gummy bears linger.

Outcome: Slightly better walk home, but the hill still demands a pause.

Lesson: Incremental gains count.

☀️ Run Three – Excuses vs. Parade

Timing: Delayed a day, early evening run to dodge the heat.

Excuses: “Phone battery too low?” “Maybe tomorrow?” → Refused.

Fuel: Gummy bears for sugar burst.

Surprise: Annual Xmas parade crowd on the walk home.

Perspective: Toddlers with pushchairs also struggle with the hill. Solidarity in sweat.

🧘 Pilates Pause

On hold this week to honor the run schedule.

Returning next week—no excuses, just recalibration.

Four runs left until the victory lap. Week 8 proves the mental game is as real as the physical one, but I’m refusing to fold. Every rest stop, every gummy bear, every parade detour is part of the stubborn joy mosaic I’m building.

Be the star of your own story even if the plot twist adds three more minutes of stubborn grit.

cartoon-style female elephant struggles to walk uphill under a hot sun, sweating but determined. She wears a coral T-shirt and teal leggings. Behind her, families dressed for a Santa parade push strollers up the same hill. The scene is festive and chaotic, with lush greenery and a bright orange sky suggesting heat and effort. The elephant leads the climb, embodying resilience and stubborn joy.
